Join the beta
Return is being tested by a small group before its public release. If a calm pause at the doorway of your apps sounds like something you'd actually use — or even something you'd like to poke holes in — you're the kind of tester it needs.
What testing involves
- Use Return like it's yours: pick a couple of apps, live with the pauses for a while.
- Say what you honestly find — a line that landed, a moment that annoyed you, "this isn't for me." All of it helps.
- That's it. There are no tasks, no surveys, and no minimum anything.
How to join
The test runs on Google Play's closed track, so Return arrives and updates like any other app on your phone — nothing to sideload, nothing to keep an eye on.
- Email support@returntoyou.app with the word beta, and include the address on your Google Play account. Google needs it to let anyone into a closed test — that's Google's requirement rather than Return's, and it's the only address Return ever asks you for.
- An opt-in link comes back — right away if the track is open, otherwise the moment it is. Tap it, accept the test, and install from Play as usual.
- Open Return. If you don't have your own Anthropic API key, ask for a private invite code — or simply use the keyless mode, where nothing leaves your phone unless you choose to send it.
Google asks a closed test to run two weeks with a dozen testers before an app can leave it. Staying opted in through those two weeks is what lets Return out of the test at all.
Your privacy in the beta
Nothing about the privacy promise changes for testers. Your words stay on your phone; your conversation resets each day; there is no account and no tracking. Worth naming plainly:
- What leaves your phone on its own: only what you'd expect from using the AI — the pause context described in the privacy policy. With an invite code, requests pass through Return's server, which records only anonymous metadata (a hashed code, token counts, and basic request metadata) and never your messages.
- What the developer can see: request metadata, and anything you choose to send — a diagnostic report, or a line you flagged with a note, along with any conversation lines you ticked to attach. All of it is shown to you in full first. Never your journal, and never a conversation you did not choose to attach.
- The one address: joining a Play test means your Google account email sits in Google's tester list and in my mailbox. It never enters the app, it is never linked to anything you do inside it, and it leaves both places when you leave the test.
- How to wipe everything: Settings → Privacy and data → reset. Uninstalling is a complete exit — there's no account to close.
